My Favorite Time of Year
Well, here I am again. It has been a long time since I have posted anything on here. It's not that I've been too busy but I just forget about it most of the time. Oh well.
Our family has been on the go recently however, and we got to spend some time at one of my favorite places, Spencer, WVa. My wife's grandparents own a large cabin in the mountains of this beautiful area. Every year we travel there to spend a few days deer hunting the week of Thanksgiving. There are a lot of deer there which makes the time spent in the tree stand a lot more gratifying than here in PA most of the time. I love to hunt but the hunting is not the only great part of being down there. The setting alone is enough to take your breath away with its beauty. It is very rugged country set way back off of paved roads and I find it very easy to relax.
Whenever I tell people that we go to a cabin and we deer hunt they seem to automatically think I am talking about a typical hunting camp. Well, this is no typical hunting cabin. Actually, Pap and Gram stay live there so it is a nice cabin but it is also very large. Due to the growing family, Pap was forced to double the size of the cabin just a few years ago. Now it is typical to have over 40 or 50 relatives staying there for several days. The men sleep upstairs on one side of the cabin and the women and children take up the downstairs and upstairs of the other side. This makes for some interesting encounters. (Just don't ask "Zeke" about my snoring.) Anyway, we do enjoy ourselves and we look forward to this week all year long. (I think just about 50 weeks until we get to do it all over again.)
By the way, I did kill a buck. It was a small four point.
Below are a couple pictures from the trip this year.
