Getting a tree stand ready. 6 bucks were shot out of this stand on the first day and a 7th was killed the next day.
I love this picture of my wife and her grandfather, Ralph Helsel. We all just call him Pap.
I know this is gross but we really turned some heads when we took the deer into town to check them in.

It's been quite a while since I have updated my blog. I'll not make any excuses as to why or make any promises to do better in the future. I will however just try to fill you in on a little bit of what we've been up to.
Our church provided a wonderful harvest home for us. It was a real treat to have my parents come in from Ohio for this special weekend. My Dad spoke in both of the services that day and it was great to be able to spend a few days with them.
Right after harvest home we began to make plans to leave for West Virginia. This is always a highlight of our year. We traveled down on a Friday and started deer season on the following Monday (which is the Monday before Thanksgiving.) I absolutely love that part of the country.
Anyway, after months of anticipation and weeks of preparation for this hunting trip, I shot my buck at 7:20 am on the first day of the season. Oh, well. We had a great time at the cabin of my wife's grandparents and then traveled to my parent's house on Wednesday night.
We spent Thanksgiving day with my parents and siblings and nieces and nephews. All of my siblings were there except one brother who lives in North Carolina. It was great to see my nephew Jimmy who is in the Air Force stationed in Shreeveport, LA. After eating too much for dinner we spent some time riding four-wheelers and just relaxing.
On Friday, we headed back toward Richfield to spend a couple days recuperating and getting ready for hunting season here in PA.
After church Sunday night we traveled 2 hours to Blue Knob, PA to spend the night with my in-laws. We hunted here today in the rain and fog. Wow what miserable day. But I shouldn't complain too much because I actually did shoot a doe today. Gonna try it again tomorrow and see if I can fill my buck tag.

We were watching one of our younger hunters shoot at some deer. The stand he was hunting from is several hundred yards from the cabin but very visible from the back porch. Poor kid. Talk about pressure with all these hunters watching. My wife thought it would be funny to take a couple pictures of us watching him.
