Just Thinking

We were in Canada over July 4 this year. The camp meeting we attended actually started on the 4th so we traveled to Niagara Falls, Canada on Monday the 3rd. It was really nice. There were lots of things to do as a family. What was really neat was the fireworks display over the falls that night. Actually we got to watch two displays at the same time. One across the river on the US side and one not far from where the above picture was taken on the Canadian side. For a while the two sides were setting off fireworks at the same time. Really neat. What was not so neat was later that night, actually more like early the next morning, we awoke to the sound of fire alarms going off in our hotel. The hotel was evacuated and we stood outside while 8 or 9 fire trucks came to make sure that the building was safe enough to re-enter. Of course it was a false alarm. We finally got tired of standing outside with tired and grumpy kids and got in our van until we could go back into the hotel. The next day we went to a neat park called Marineland. We had a great time. We would have liked to have spent more time at Marineland but needed to get on our way to the camp. But I'm sure we will make our way back some time.

When we were in Canada, I had a day of pretty severe abdominal pain and feverish symptoms. The next day things were clearing up so I thought nothing of it until I got out of bed on Monday. This was several days after my bout in Canada but it was the same kind of pain so I knew it was something more than just a common stomach ache. I suffered through the day on Monday but the pain grew more severe and my doctor suggested that I go to the emergency room in case it was appendix. After many hours of waiting and a CAT scan it was discovered that I have diverticulitis. Don't ask me to go into all the details but let me tell you it is not a pleasant experience. I have heard that this disease can be painful but firsthand experience proved to me that it is. Just taking some meds for it right now and I am scheduled to see my Dr. again in a couple weeks. I'm sure that some more pleasant experiences are in the near future.

We are back home again. Finally. We just returned from Ontario Canada where we were the youth worker for the Ontario Interdenominational Holiness Camp. What a privilege it was to be with some old friends again and to meet so many nice people. Rev. Joel Byer is the camp president and is doing a great job. Rev. David Fulton and Dr. Philip Brown were the camp evanglelists and they both did a great job. I was blessed by their ministry throughout the week. Derek & Alanna McIntire were the song evanglelist and traveling with them was Alicia Redmond. They did a great job. Derek, Joel and I were joined by Stephen Paulus, (Stephen's wife was one of the children's workers) and we sang a couple quartet numbers in an afternoon and evening service. It was a lot of fun, and we were really really good. Just kidding. The Ontario camp has a wonderful group of young people and I was really impressed with them and their eagerness to serve the Lord. If there is anyone living in the northern part of the US or in Ontario that is looking for a good family camp, my I highly recomend OIHC.
